Bible Journey – Day 103 April 16, 2008

Joshua 10-12

  • During the battle at Gibeon, God threw down on the Gibeonites with really large hail stones.  I wonder if the weatherpeople of the time compared the size of those stones to things comparable to their culture, like “pomegranate-sized hail stones”.
  • This brings up another question: where the hail stones just hitting the Gibeonites, or did the Israelites have to dodge them?  Where any of Joshua’s guys killed by hailstones?
  • Joshua prayed and asked God to stop the sun from moving.  Can we all agree that this was the “biggest ask” of all time?  Does anything that I ask for even remotely come close to this one?
  • Joshua moved through the land like Sherman moving through Georgia.  Quite an impressive military campaign.
  • The Bible says that “not one town made peace with the People of Israel, with the one exception of the Hivites who lived in Gibeon.”  Was this because God hardened their hearts and made them arrogant or because they were just plain stupid?
  • Joshua and the People of Israel defeated a total of 31 kings.  I wonder if there is any “numerical significance” in that number?

Hey, you’ve got to check out my new favorite blog!  I tried to link it, but I couldn’t get it to work, so here’s the info.  Go to “stuffchristianslike.blogspot.com”.  It’s a list of stuff that Christians can relate to.  It’s hysterical!  Maybe I can figure out how to link it.  Check it out!

American Idol, Final 7 April 16, 2008

Going to blog through the entire show, giving you a running update…

Mariah Carey is the “mentor” for the final 7.  Is it me, or does she have the biggest ego this side of Elton John?  Anyway, everyone seems in awe of her, which I guess I would be, too.

Michael Johns should be on this show.  It was a crime that he was voted off last week.  Someone should have been arrested.  Mariah brought her dog to the “mentoring” session.

First up is David Enchillada.  That’s what Trey calls him.  She is taller than him.  I think he is wearing leather pants in the performance.  I don’t recognize this song.  He hits a good high note.  Tracey says that he did awesome because it was a lot of notes.  Just learned that he sang a Mariah/Whitney Houston duet song.  Judges liked him very much-Simon knew he would pick that song, and he informed us that he had a number one song in the U.K. with that one.  What?  I guess he produced it and didn’t sing it, right?

Commercial break.  While we’re waiting, can I just say that Ryan Seacrest, while he does a good job hosting and keeping the show moving, gets more arrogant and irritating every year?  I get really tired of the whole “smart alek comment to Simon” thing every night.

Next up is Carly Smithson.  She was sad last week when Johns got voted off.  She is singing “Without You”, which is a great song, especially the 70’s version.  She did a good job, but I don’t think the judges will like it.  Randy said “it was pretty good”.  Megan does a good Paula imitation.  Simon didn’t think she pulled it off.

Commercial break.  Patrick Dempsey is in a movie where he plays a bridesmaid.  Is that a good career move for him?  The Pope is in the USA.  He flew in this afternoon, and President Bush and family met him at the airport.  This was very historic-newsguy said that no President had ever greeted a pope at Andrews Air Force base before-actually, I think newsguy said that no President had ever greeted ANY foreign leader at the airport before.  People were screaming like the Pope was a rock star, which I guess he kind of is, except for the fact that he is 81 years old and the office of Pope isn’t even in the Bible.

Up next is Syesha Mercado.  She has sparkles in her hair.  Tracey says that she is good.  She also says what she is doing is hard.  Tracey is the Randy Jackson character in our family.  Randy liked it, Paula said that she was “smart”, Simon is wearing a black t-shirt and he thinks she should have chosen a more familiar song.

Brooke up next.  She had to miss her sister’s wedding this past weekend.  Curse you, American Idol!  She is doing a good job, but Tracey says she is singing flat.  She is shaking!  I thought she was going to explode.  The bridge of the song threw Randy, but he liked the “singer-songwriter” thing.  Simon is going to bust her.  She sees it coming.  “A bit like ordering a hamburger and only getting the bun!”  Randy said the meat was in the bun, but it was missing “the condiments”.

Kristy Lee Cook is up next.  Mariah just told her that she (Kristy) sang it better than she (Mariah) did.  Wow.  I think she was making that up just to be nice.  By the way, Mariah has a big bandaid on her hand.  What’s up with that?  Kristy reminds me of Andrea Bradley, if any of you know Andrea Bradley.  She did pretty good.  Kristy has big hair tonight.  Simon just picked his nose.  Now he is smirking.  Simon didn’t like it and said she was a little whinny.

Commercial break.  These “Mac/PC” commercials are classics.  So are the Comcast “more, more, more” commercials.

David Cook is up next. He is singing “Always Be My Baby”.  She likes the version.  Tracey thinks that I could pull off the “vest/shirt/loose tie” look, but Megan doesn’t.  I like this version, too.  I’d buy one of his CD’s.  Randy is about to bust-this is the first time this year that he stood up and applauded!  Paula is gushing.  Simon loved it, big time!  Cook is crying!  That just won him some more votes, as if he needs them.  Can we just go ahead and declare him the winner of this thing?

Commercial break.  Wendy’s is now serving chicken wraps.

Jason Castro has the last spot.  Ryan just ripped someone’s sign in half!  It said “Simon For President”.  Can’t stand Castro’s dreadlocks.  He is one goofy dude.  Megan likes the blonde highlights at the end of his dreads.  Tracey (Randy) says that he is good.  He is very sensitive!  Good high note.  Randy felt like he was out a beach luau.  Simon agrees with…Paula (who loved it).  He said that the guys beat the girls tonight.

My prediction is that Brooke White goes home tomorrow night.  She will cry like crazy.  Megan says that David Cook “rocked!!!…..(out loud)”.  I wrote that differently, but Megan corrected me.  Tracey says that Jason Castro is too cute!  He’s safe for another week.
